Is McCain working for the oil companies or the American peoples ?

What if there was a vote to decide if .5 billion in tax breaks for oil companies should go into oil alternatives, like solar and wind? What would you want your Senator to do?

Well, as you probably guessed, there was such a vote. We needed 60 votes to prevail, and 59 of them were in. But John McCain ducked the vote.

As a result, instead of powering millions of homes with clean energy and building next-generation solar technology, we’re giving ExxonMobil and other companies billions in tax breaks at a time when they’re already making record profits. What say you ?

Actually we needed 60 to force the senate floor to vote on a bill, this is how republicans have been blocking bills with and without filibustering this entire congress. For those that do not know, this congress has had the most filibusters in the history of our country.

To top it off there have been 8bills regarding energy called up in the Senate this congress and all but two have even gotten the 60votes to make the entire senate vote (or filibuster). 6 bills are being sat on because they lack the 60 and the 2 that got voted on, 1 was voted against by republicans, the other was filibustered by republicans.

But oh well, with a little postering and showmanship in the House of Representatives they’ve actually convinced a large number of Americans it’s the democrats that won’t do anything to help relieve the energy crisis. It’s kind of sad, actually.

according to McCain… what’s good for big oil is good for America…

    so… he says "both"…

    I don’t know if I believe him though…

  3. cuzziman84 says:

Both. Americans need relief at the pump while they search for alternative fuels. Obama’s war against Big Oil will only lead to disaster.

  4. toe poe gee gee oh says:

I would want the vote to go to alternatives…this information would help me to decide to not vote for JOhn but I would also like to know how Obama voted or may have voted in this situation….

  5. mustagme says:

Of course McCain is for the American people. But having Exxon around is good as well. Exxon is one of the biggest companies and employ millions of Americans. More millions are heavily invested in Exxon, and they benefit as well. Record oil profits benefit all.

As for alternative fuels, there is plenty of oil to power us until they are ready. There isn’t a rush.

Both parties are in it for self, not us.

  7. Kurt S says:

They are ALL working for the gas companies. The oil industry is the most powerful in the world and essentially controls it, what do you think?

  8. david c says:

i vote for the poor people, they pay all the taxes, hire most the people at good wages, and donate heavily to charity..what has mobil ever done for anyone??

  9. jas says:

Don’t let information on votes confuse you. Voting in Washington is very complex, and most are not as clear and simple as politicians would like you to believe. Politicians and media love to lay them out just as you did, when in fact there are other things within that bill that explains why people vote yes or no or don’t vote.

You need to understand the full bill to draw concusions.

  10. Right is Wrong says:

Nice find. If I might add, his buddy Phil Gramm also has extensive ties with oil companies, and McCain has stated in the past that he relies heavily on Gramm for advice.

Name one source of clean energy that currently powers milliions of homes……………..crickets chirping…………..more crikets……….. Exactly who is "we"?? Oh, you mean the global warming scam artist liberals who only think it’s ok to make profits from oil if you are a liberal, like the clintons, reid, pelosi, michael moore, etc. I guess you cannot understand that any taxes imposed on oil companies will be passed on to the consumer.

  12. Louis S says:

Energy policy requires reason and logic. The entire world runs on oil – - and while alternative energy is part of the pie – it is only a small part. The idea is for energy companies to work for the betterment of America but not be unfairly restricted from building and researching better ways to provide energy at a reasonable cost to the public.

The "alternative" as I see it – is to remain tied to the Middle-East Oil King$ – while they jerk us around whenever they feel like it – holding us hostage to their whims of entertainment to crush our economic system – thus crushing any hope we have of competing on the world stage, or for simply caring for our citizens.

To harm our oil companies is to support the middle-east $$ oil dictators with our precious dollars – - that they turn around and use to buy up America. How stupid is that ?

""What if there was a vote to decide if $13.5 billion in tax breaks for oil companies should go into oil alternatives, like solar and wind? What would you want your Senator to do?""

What? You want the Gov. to take the profits of one industry and force them to give to an industry that will cost them even more money?

    That is STUPID.

    1. It would be illegal as hell
    2. It goes against all common sense

WE would make up the difference in much higher prices

No Industry on the PLANET pays more in taxes than oil companies do.

    Easier and more efficient solution.

1 Let the entrepreneurs of this country work on alternatives.
    2. Use new technologies to conserve
    3. Drill here / Drill Now

Short, middle and long term solution

Let America do what America does best

  14. ~Haunted~ says:

McCain is working and has been working for lobbyists for over 24 years.

psst……… and if that’s what they mean by experience I’ll take the guy with out any day of the week.

    Obama 2008 !

  15. trollazoid says:

I vote for nuclear over those pie in the sky solar and wind "research" initiatives because they don’t produce significant amounts of power.

  16. Bearwithme says:

Oil companies of course. His actions speak of his desire, just as they do of any politician who takes a government paycheck but takes money from private corporations to finance their campaigns. Consider this, which of our politicians gets checks from the company running the war in Iraq?
Oil profit greed is seriously harming our ability to move ahead with green technologies. That’s too bad since, 13.5 billion could have gone a long way to advancing the newer technologies we need to break free from oil dependence.

  17. Just me for President 2008 says:

There you go again us against them. Those evil companies and their ill gotten profits they must be stopped I tell you they must be stopped !!!

We are building solar power plants here in Arizona (home of John Mccain) We are building the largest solar plant in the world and without stealing from the rich and giving to the poor (or what ever).

You must be very young or just crawled out from under a rock if you think that the government dumping 13.5 billion dollars into alternative energy would create anything other than a new giant bureaucracy. When will you silly liberals learn the government is not the solution to our problems it is the cause of them.

The less money the government has (even if this means horror of all horror tax cuts for the "rich") the less the government can be sticking it noise into your life. And you liberals talk about freedom. You don’t want freedom you want a wet nurse give me a break!!!!
